[history]
If you can't accuse a television producer of being an intellectual, you certainly can't describe a newspaper columnist as being one. Nevertheless, the Chutzpah Award for the year that just died must go to Polly Toynbee of London's daily Guardian for an enlightened rationalization and demonization that boils over like volcanic lava. Ms. Toynbee fell for the infamous Nigerian scam, and she had to find somebody to be mad at, and it couldn't be herself.

"If some Nigerians learned lessons in capitalism from global oil companies that helped corrupt and despoil that land, it is hardly surprising they absorbed some of the Texan oil values that now rule the White House."
Unbelievable! This liberal columnist in the U.K. falls for the widely known Nigerian bank scam like a gullible IDIOT and whose fault is it? Why George W. Bush of course.
I snipped the first section of the article because it was about Dostoyevsky and liberal "intellectuals" in general. The section of the article that really stood out was this bit about the idiot liberal columnist.

Is it not POSSIBLE that the Nigerian scammers learned to brazenly lie,
and deny, and lie again, and deny, and lie again

The original article where this woman blames Bush is posted here on FR somewhere. I remember seeing it. Typical Guardian "journalist"

Anybody with half-a-brain and a computers knows about this scam; a scam as old as email itself. This pathetic clump of journalistic talent somehow missed the thousands of articles that have been written about this scam. What a prize she is to her profession and especially to whomever employs her now.
It's one thing to be so lame and out of touch. It's a whole 'nother thing to publish your own record of stupidity. She must be a laughingstock among her peers. How sad.

She must be a laughingstock among her peers. Yeah, she pretty much blew what little credibility she had before. From now on she will always be known as that SUCKER who fell for the obvious Nigerian bank scam.

The original article where this woman blames Bush is posted here on FR somewhere. It's here.
I remember it because my reply at the time echoed the article in this thread. I said:
So this woman exposes herself as a gullible idiot, and yet she expects us to take her policy prescriptions seriously?"
To: PJ-Comix
This is why you can't have a rational discussion with the irrational left about Bush.
It's because he is not even a person to them anymore, he is some mythological demonic icon that has world domination and destruction as a goal. Emotionallly, they feel like he lies awake at night plotting to destroy all civilization to line the greedy pockets of his wealthy buddies. I guess logic is not a liberal skill.
This woman is outside rationality, but really her flights of fancy are not so different from what I see on some democrat websites.

But, didn't Bush fall for a Nigerian scam?

I always felt that way about Madeline Albright, standing on the White House drive saying she personally talked to President Clinton and the Monica charges were without validity.
I mean, even I could see through that, and I was just an average citizen.
I remember thinking of the line in "Charade" where a diplomatic employee said, "Well, if I bluffed the old man out of the pot with a pair of deuces, what is the other side doing to him?"
To: Joe Bonforte
Thanks, that's it.

If anyone wants to play the cause and effect blame game with regards to the White House and internet spam a much better case could be made for connection between clinton and the plethora of penis enlargement ads.

It's far easier to blame someone else than to accept that you're stupid.

Good grief ... I got a paper copy of the Nigerian Scam back in 1993. Must be Clinton's fault.

There was a in woman New York state who fell for the Nigerian scam not once, but twice while desperately trying to replace money she had embezzled from her company to support a compulsive gambling habit. But Toynbee is still dumber, because the embezzler didn't blame her stupidity on anybody else, much less on the President of the United States!
