[history]
VANITY Fair columnist Christopher Hitchens has launched a one-man crime spree to protest some of Mayor Bloomberg's more overbearing ordinances.
In the space of a few hours, Hitchens managed to break a slew of New York's pettier laws: He sat on an upended milk crate, took his feet off bike pedals, put his bag on the subway seat next to him, fed pigeons in Central Park and sat on a subway step. He also smoked in a bar and in a restaurant.

"Who knows what goes on in the tiny, constipated chambers of [Bloomberg's] mind? All we know . . . is that one of the world's most broad-minded and open cities is now in the hands of a picknose control freak."The entire City Council is the same way.

Hitchens is priceless. When he's not blaming third world suffering on American Cold War era politicians.

Hitchens writes: "The law these days . . . states that New York City is now the domain...... of a mayor who is that most pathetic and annoying figure - the micro-megalomaniac. "Who knows what goes on in the tiny, constipated chambers of [Bloomberg's] mind? All we know . . . is that one of the world's most broad-minded and open cities is now in the hands of a picknose control freak." Best description of a RINO ever put on paper.

You are not plagiarizing when you put the name of the author in there.

Hitchens is so cute? Isn't he just the darling "Leftwinger" we all love? How radical of him to "challenge" these laws. They may be stupid laws- but at least they are local and thus can be more easily overturned than federal laws. Hitchens is an advocate of more federal control and thus harder to change. He is mocking local control in this piece and most on this thread are too opaque to see it.
See- Hitchens was a bigtime critic of the US all throughout the Cold War. He never missed a chance to denounce the US and shill for the Soviet Union.
But when the US came up on the winning end and he realized that the US Bureacracy was largely leftie like himself- he then got on the band wagon of US expansionism abroad. Thus him and the ex trotsky phoneycons who took over National Review (which I once loved) have such orgasms together now.
Hitchens is the "good Left winger" to the phoneycons as Packwood used to be the "good Republican" to the left.
Of course Hitchens does support the WOT and thus he is a good Leftie. Never mind that we are creating a left wing welfare state in Iraq and that Hitchens has said that America is the best vehichle for spreading leftwing ideology all over the globe now. Oh Gee- Hitchens is so "priceless"!

Yes- his criticism of Bloomberg is dead on accurate- but also very calculated. Hitchens is a left wing snake.

There's another way to look at it: from a psychological perspective. He may have a serious problem admitting how wrong he was.

BUMP!!

To: Burkeman1
Yeah, Hitchens is certainly extreme left but when he gets one right, we gotta applaud it.

Blah, blah, blah.
Your dithering posts are useless. I take him at his word and his epiphany after 9/11.
Left wing welfare state in Iraq? Talk about drivel. And you attack Hitchens?
