A Day in the Life of President Bush (photos) 1.5.04

Pres. Bush traveled to St. Louis to promote his "No Child Left Behind" education law. Pres. Bush spoke at the Pierre Laclede Elementary School, which he said in his Saturday radio address had risen "to meet our new standards."

Pres. Bush also visited with about 50 fourth-graders. One asked Pres. Bush if he had wanted to be president when he was a child.

"No," Bush told the children, all nearly a decade shy of voting age. "It can be pretty hard." Still, he called his job "a very rewarding experience" and took credit for "a world that's more peaceful, (where) more kids are learning to read."

He also appeared at his first campaign fund-raiser of the year, adding to a record total of more than $110 million in contributions for a primary race in which he has no Republican opponent. Pres. Bush now has $120 Million in his campaign bank account.

On Thursday, the second anniversary of the signing of the No Child Left Behind Act, Pres. Bush will hold a similar event at West View Elementary School in Knoxville, Tenn. Both events are paired with re-election campaign fund-raisers.

What distinguishes our discussion of this topic from the "perpetually disgruntled, I'll never vote for GWB again" crowd, is that we DOSERS start from the premise that President Bush is a man of great moral integrity who will do what is RIGHT for this country, not what is politically expedient (if he wanted to be politically expedient, he'd just pull a Clinton and ignore the whole situation). Bottomline: We TRUST President Bush to propose a rational, reasoned immigration policy based on the best information/research available. We can subsequently agree or disagree with the policy, but we won't doubt the President's moral or political sincerity! You got it, Exactly.

I understand your point and I agree that we can not close our borders to those who want to come here and make a life for themselves, But on the same token, I feel it's bad policy to rward those who came here illegally to begin with. If someone came here on a Visa and applied for an extension through the normal legal process with the intent to follow our laws and procedures, and the INS wasn't able to meet their end of the agreement. Then I hold the INS responsible and those people deserve some kind of relief.

But people who came here by either walking through the desert and swimming the Rio Grande, or stowaways aboard ship, or any other form of deliberate illegal entry, than they deserve no consideration, just sent back and told to follow the normal process or face jail time for their next offense.

I also understand the idea of some kind of worker program for those who want to abandon illegal crossings and apply for some kind of relief if they can prove they have a steady job here. But I think they should be made to pay extra for this consideration, and when they meet these requirements they can become part of this dream we call America.

Bottom line for me is that I will not condemn this administration for trying to solve some of these issues. I do not think he will grant any kind of blanket amnesty, and before I pass any judgment.

I will wait till I see something in writing from him or his administration. As for those who say they will not vote for Bush because of some NYT's article or a Wash Post editorial that makes all kinds of speculation on what will be in a proposal they have not seen, I consider them tools for the left. They trot these stories out in an effort to corner this President to address the issue in an open forum for political reasons.

Do you ever remember the Wash. Post or NYT's making an issue of this problem when Clinton was in office? It's just like the issue of the homeless, the only time these things are even written about is when a Republican is in office

I am here, but will probably end up talking
to myself as it is already 12:42 am back East.

I'll be here for awhile, I need time to unwind after work.

Knee is a little inflamed and stiff tonight, but it usually is after work..thanks for asking!

I am doing well, and hope you are, too!

Will pray you get those phonecalls/e-mails!

Heck, I pray for ya all the time!

Going through the last few boxes of things from my Dad's house, found a whole bunch of recipes that my Mom had..
been lost in reverie reading them..the memories that they bring back...

She was a great cook..lots of old Canadian recipes...

I'm gonna cook up a bunch of that stuff this weekend..

MS. B!!!!

I got called away - my nephew in Hawaii wanted to talk and I just can't turn him down. He's so special I sometimes think of him as the kid I never had. Since I was young when my brother and SIL had him, the age is about right.

But I'm back and was reading all the immigration posts to catch up and VOILA! there you are.

How are ya? How was your day back at work? Are you hurtin'? I'll be right over to massage your neck and leg and make all those aches go away.

Thanks for the prayers, MS. B. I must be feeling them because I'm not upset at "no calls today" and feel very strongly that I am going to be hearing from companies, that I'm going to be going on interviews, even if I had to fly (ugh), and I will find that position that is perfect for me and my future employer.

What kind of recipes? You can invite me over to "taste-test 'em" - I love old timey recipes. My Mom was a really great cook and not cooking for the past 8 years, I'm losing my repertoire of recipes, and I fear, losing my knack for entertaining, which I used to just love doing.

Now I'm here, talking to myself.

Oh well - it's late here on the East Coast, and I guess I should get a clue and go to bed.

Night all!

I thought you'd left me.

What is a bob-tailed cat? Is that one of these cousins to the bobcat? I had a friend who had two of them, beautiful cat but different, as I remember.

I'm good at massages. In college, I befriended theatre arts folks across the campus because all the Pre-Med and Physics majors I was taking classes with were so, well, boring.

So I met Bobby LaPone and Patti Lupone - he created the role of Zak in A Chorus Line, and she of "Evita" fame, and others that you wouldn't know but they are well-known Manhatten artists - singers mostly.

Anyway, a friend of Bobby's pulled some muscles and they actually sent me to learn the medical massage they needed, so I could give it to them for free - well, a dinner was usually included.

Glad you're still here - wish I could drink an adult beverage but I take a med that has Tylenol in it - so no alcohol or I rot my liver.

My cats are just bob-tailed..born that way..
I just had my 16 year old put down because she had cancer in her ear, she was the cutest of the bunch..she hopped like a bunny rabbit.

I have her daughter, who is all gray, and has a "powder-puff" like tail, she is really prissy and sashays all around the house..she dips her paws in her water bowl, rather than put her lovely face in it..sheesh.

I have another little monster bob-tail all black and the complete opposite of the kitty mentioned above..this little black one is a "punk" always in trouble and mouthy!

I would let you give me a massage Truthy, I trust ya!

No, I don't know those Artsy Manhatten types...

I took alot of meds during this knee business, enough of that!!

The pain is not that bad anymore, and I hate taking pills!

Glad you're still here!

You mean you've actually been able to give up the pain meds?

Wow, that's great. I mean, if you aren't in any pain.

You're really doing well, aren't you?

I've never had a cat but I kept a kitten for my niece for three days and didn't want to name it,leaving that for her to do. So, I called her "kitty" - and that had to be her name because they couldn't switch her to anything else.

I had a poodle when I was in College and they are so funny, and loving, I'd love to have one again. And a canary- I had to give mine away when I moved home from Spain.

Sigh. Someday I hope I'm settled somewhere and can go back to having some pets in my life.

I'm glad you're here, too!

Are you having a snowstorm? How much do you have so far?

We are getting an Canadian Clipper tomorrow afternoon. It will start out in the high 30's and then drop as well as getting windy. I should think about getting out early, and finishing early, so I'm not out in that chill. I'm not used to it, it's been so mild around here for a week. Spoiled me, it did. I got to thinking we were headed to an early Spring. Rats. No such luck.

I'm doing very well..
If I have a bad day pain wise,
I manage it with Advil, ice, and rest..

My cats are a pain in the butt sometimes...
but when I was laid up, that little black one
"Minette", would curl up on my hurt knee,
and rest her chin on it, with her paws on either side..

She might be a 'punk" but I love the lil' cuss!

Two to five inches we're gonna get, they say...
Just a dusting right now, but it's coming down fast..

Wednesday, we will get an artic blast...
high temps during the day will only be 10 to 15 degrees,
and wind chill factors to 30 below...

I have an old fashioned wood cookstove in the kitchen..
and I'n gonna fire it up and set a stew on it to simmer all day...
