I'm guessing his honor hasn't stepped foot in a church in a good long while. Three-quarters of the people there look like they're heading off to the roller rink.

CA FEDERAL COURT: Quiet as a church. Neatly vacuumed carpets. Marble everything.

CA STATE COURT: Linoleum floors. Photos, calendars and notices haphazardly taped to walls. Handwritten notice on courtroom door: "NO CHEWING GUM OR SPITTING ON FLOOR".

Among the prohibited items of clothing are belly-exposing shirts, halter tops, sweat suits, camouflage garments, swimwear, exercise garb and other revealing garments such as tank tops.

Oddly Talibanish rules from California of all places!

Those rules are supposed to be what your parents taught you and they were at one ancient time called "manners". Very funny to see them declared in some judicial jihad though.......Too little too late.

Our county bailed on the orange jumpsuits. Our inmates now wear a fetching black & white two-piece outfit.

The two places for which I've always made the extra effort to dress nicely are church and court (the latter in my former career as atty and my current one as news reporter - not a defendant, no matter what you may have heard!).

This is from Michigan. Oakland is the county of these courts.

However, if we all dressed like the Amish, this wouldn't even be necessary. Hahahaha

Similar new rules at our local courts. People don't realize there are other reasons people wear hats. I wear a hat due to a medical condition. At court for a custody hearing, they still made me remove the hat, but moved me to the end of the docket so the whole crowd wouldn't be there. I did win non-parental custody.

Now the court has a new set of rules to govern not only what people wear in court, but also how they behave. The code spells out what attorneys, jurors, witnesses and other visitors may wear and forbids such activities as gum chewing and reading newspapers. The new rules took effect Thursday.

I wonder if this will be as effective as most school dress codes.

Kind of hypocritical - the same instituion which will not permit businesses to establish dress codes, or schools to do so, are so full of their own self-importance and egotism that make an exception in the courtrooms.

People who visit American courts should dress up like clowns. The Judges have made American justice a circus and they are the ringleaders.
