THE OLD, TIRED IDEA that America has only a finite number of jobs -- and that we must guard them zealously against raids from cheap foreign labor -- has been making a remarkable comeback. The only difference is that its upside-down view of the economy has plumbed new depths.

Or is there some kind of implied threat there.

Haha. Black helicopters buzzing again? I was just stating that you live in Arizona.

Not very Christian of you, Mr. Dawg.

How would you know what is "Christian"? Weird.

Nope. Don't even know what that is. I was just stating that you, the screenname "riri", live in Arizona.

Boy, you cannot take a hint, can you? The question is not whether a U.S. firm has won a patent infringement case against China or Pakistan, but how many. If you'd care to visit the U.S. trade Representative's website, you'd also learn that Pakistan (under its WTO obligations--gasp!) re-wrote its patent laws in 2000 to make foreign claims proceed more smoothly.

That's tremendous news. I hope this continues to develop along these lines. However, I think we both can agree that many foreign gov'ts pay more lip service than actual effort to many laws.... witness the repeated rapes and robberies of American Citizens in Tijuana -- by the police -- lately...

FR is entertaining

So you shoplift paid subscription articles for entertainment.

You are no American, you are no Christian, you are not like any of us. I doubt you even work.

Do you support enforcing subscription agreements and prosecuting IP theft?

Are you opposed to theft, opposed to taking someone elses property in violation of promises and giving it away?

Do you support restrictions on people who violate agreements?

You have no experience in owning a business, running a business

I'm getting that experience these days.

By the way:

Pakistan enacted a new patent law in 2000 that protects both process patents and product patents in accordance with its WTO obligations. Under this law both the patent-owner and licensees can file suit against those who infringe. However, backlogged cases in the courts could result in delays in issuing injunction orders against violators. [emphasis added]

Agreed. I do hope that these foreign nations abide by the new laws, but... frankly, I have little faith that they will do anything more than pay token lip service to it.

On a related note, I'm very uncomfortable having records of US citizens -- medical and financial -- in foreign hands as well. This is an unprecendented event, and the ability to use these records in espionage, by hostile governments, is also unprecedented.

I also view our cadres of software analysts as an important resource, and think they are a strategic military asset worthy of protecting. Do you concur with any of those three points?

you are no Christian

Sure I am. Not that it matters though. You're the only one here who has admitted you are not... not that that matters either, of course.

Steely Dan, wasn't it.

As always, it's been a pleasure. Back to stick my nose in my chemistry book. Here in Arizona...

You do never seem to tire of this argument, I gotta give you that.

Well, that's not good. Justice delayed is justice denied, and subsequently, laws with no teeth are not worthwhile.

You bear no fuit. You steal, lie and wish hardship upon others.
