And what's to prevent the other sex running some of the stuff up his you know what?
Can 8 to 12 oz bring down a plane? If you have two or more collaborators on a flight, you up the explosive power.
What a security nightmare.

I am pretty sure this was from a test of 10 ozs of C4 in a pressurized cabin of 35,000 feet comparable pressure.

The shoe bomb that Reid had .....was about 8 to 12 ozs.

I imagine if you exploded a ball against the skin near a doorway, or near the center of the aircraft either forward or behind the wing, the tear of the skin in flight would be catastrophic

Can 8 to 12 oz bring down a plane?Maybe... That would be a greater explosive force than a hand grenade. And if it were set off in the rear lavatory, there would be a good chance of disabling the rudder and elevators.

Can 8 to 12 oz bring down a plane?Twelve ounces of C4 is what brought down Pan Am 103.

Aliska asks: "
Can 8 to 12 oz bring down a plane?"
The investigation into the 1988 downing of Pan Am flight 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland, concluded that it was blown out of the skies by the detonation of only 12 oz of Semtex-H hidden in a Toshiba radio planted alongside the inner aircraft hull.
That may seem like a small amount of explosive, but keep in mind that Semtex-H is a hybrid compounded of approximately equal parts of two of the most violent high explosives man can make. Making matters worse, the cabin pressurization already exerts an outward force of approximately half a ton on each square foot of the plane's skin, while it flies through the thin atmosphere of flight altitudes.

Eight ounces could. After take off the bomber would place the explosive in critical areas of the aircraft, such as the hydrolic and control cable (fly by wire like the Airbus) runs, above a fuel cell, 8 ounces of plastique against the cockpit door will probably take it and the crew out. In short if you can get it on board and are willing to lose your life, you can take down.
