When Okinawa reverted to Japanese control the cops gradually became a mix of Japanese and Okinanawan. In about 1975 some Japanese cops began to carry guns which they had never done before. The cops who volunteered to carry were trained on the Marine Pistol Ranges at Camp Hansen. No cop was allowed to carry until he had proven himself to be an expert marksman and had passed a Hogan's Alley test on target identification. One wrong shot and that was it no more carry.
