Golem - medieval european jewish mythical being, an automaton or animated statue created by a rabbi wise in various hebraic lore, meant to serve as a guardian or avenger for the oppressed jews living amongst hostile gentiles. I believe the paragon of the various mythis is set in Prague, 1200's or 1300's.
