"What do Islamic terrorists and Democrats have in common?" 12/25/03
Both were opposed to the overthrow of Saddam Hussein
Both support the overthrow of George W. Bush
Both were elated by a crippled U.S. economy
Both are now disgusted by our new economic turnaround
Both are opposed to the 'nativity scene' and other religious aspects of Christmas
Both are sympathetic to Hamaas as opposed to Israel
Both hope Bin Laden is never captured or killed
Both have control over their respective media outlets and education systems
Both believe that government is supposed to control thought
Both hate big business and wealth
Both are too stupid and uneducated to acquire wealth
Both hate the American military
Both wish Christians were silenced
Both are allies of France and Germany
Both are concerned with how Saddam is treated while in captivity
Both have been getting their ass kicked lately by President Bush!
Who would Bin Laden vote for if he could cast a ballet in the upcoming election; George Bush or Howard Dean?

There's a reason it was so good...it happened to avoid
ad hominem, and asked straight questions, unlike the rest of the babbling masses on this board. Not that I agree with all of it, of course. :P gitmo, have you read:

The concept of a pre-emptive strike IS a departure from prior US policy. However, that was only one part of the case Bush presented for an attack on Iraq.
But we are going to have to face the nature of a war on terrorism. International terrorists attack and disappear. They are able to exist for one reason. Nations are funding, harboring and training them. Terrorists provide a method to attack an enemy without exposing one's self to war. It's analogous to hiring an assasin so that you are not directly involved in the crime. Even though they don't wear a uniform, they are still soldiers of the nations that back them.
We cannot win against terrorism if we are unwilling to go to war against the nations behind the terrorists. And in so responding, we are not pre-emptive. We are being responsive to an act of war.

I agree that if a group of terrorists attacks the U.S., and it is reasonable to believe, as you assert, that the terrorists are supported by their governments, we are not preemptive in our war against them. However, with all the evidence seeming to point out Iraq as completely disconnected with the terrorists that _did_ attack us, it doesn't seem like Iraq fits into that model of justified retaliation.

You bring up an iteresting argument, brand-newbee. Please give us your address to forward to the terrorist, as the person/place we would like blown up first before we respond.

I have a hard time understanding why exactly you people see the need to be so hostile. It's not very conducive to actual productive conversation, and doesn't seem to founded on anything at all. :P

Hostile - what hostile.
You want them to blow us up first, before we strike back. I am just trying to help them do that by giving them a willing target, who understands their need to blow us up, and us to stand by until they do.
Most of the rest of us aren't so eager to be blown up first, as you seem to be.

XBob, this is, at best, silly. Your assertion that I (for an unknown reason) desire to be eradicated by terrorists, rests on the premise that Iraq has something to do with terrorism, which is exactly what is in question right now. I suggest you cease your nonsense, and participate in actually accomplishing something.

Well, are you not 'us'? And you argue that we should wait for 'them' to blow 'us' up first, before we strike to prevent it. So, as you are 'us', I can only assume, that the terrorists must blow someone of 'us' up to accopmlish your desires for 'morality', that you must be one who wishes to be blown up. Or do you want someone else blown up?
I don't. I just want them to hit people who argue we shouldn't protect ourselves.
You make a very persuasive case to encourage the terrorists to blow 'us' up before we strike. So, let that 'us' be you and we should all be happy.

They have shown that Iraq trained Al Qaeda in camps north of Baghdad. And there were documents showing funding and arms supplied to them. As well as meetings with OBL.

Seems like my little post has flushed out a few miscreants who wish to infiltrate and sully the sane world of Free Republic, doesn't it? Such a shame that their delusional world is as twisted and distorted as it is. They believe the threat to them springs from real Americans. They really believe their vision of utpopic reality requires them to imagine that there are no outside threats to their lives or to their society. They imagine that 9-11 was a product of rightwing errors, miscalculation and greed. Nevermind that a very evil and flawed element in our world wants nothing less than the apacolyptic destruction of them, their children, their grandparents and even their "herb" gardens. They can't imagine that some people's "God" commands them to disembowel us while they rejoice and glorify their own deaths as "martyrs" while celebrating our demise.
It's so pathetic that these so-called fellow citizens imagine themselves as patriotic while they abandon every fundamental principle and tenet that has served this great land for so long. These fellow "citizens" don't realize that if we fail in the War on Terror, the best they can hope for is living on their knees.
And, I fear that if we lose the cultural war, these misfits will soon see their "utopia" of communal work farms and industry become gulags and and infested with vermin of the worst kind. This great land can not be allowed to fail - from without or within. Our freedom, our brand of enterprise, our commerce and capital machinery fuels the world. We are the last great hope on earth.
And my new found FRiends - Mr. Waspman, BOBTHENAILER, et al - I will have none of their brand of idiocy. Their disdain for this wonderful land is palpable - and it nauseates me. I am grateful for the type of people here on FR who stand beside me.
As for the likes of Anatolius and WhyAreYouDumbAndHateful, your brand of hate, loathing and insults mean nothing to me. You can engage in your pseudo-intellectual discourse about Noam Chomsky or Al Franken while sitting in your root cellars, sipping French wine and nibbling brie. Meanwhile, brave Americans, perhaps my own sons one day, will defend your pathetic, miserable lives. Or so you don't have to piss your pants if there is a knock on the door.
For what it is worth, I always make an effort to post gracious opinions. But, their lot sickens me.

"I always make an effort to post gracious opinions. But, their lot sickens me."You are always successful in that effort, Mr. Lincoln and I applaud you for it. That last reply was of the highest order, I must say!!!
I realize that your station in life requires you to be a little more gracious and it shows, in fact it glows! On the other hand, I'm a little more of a "Combative Conservative," in a sense. I meet with "Captains of Industry" such as yourself in my profession and have also met with many on another basis in my former political life.
I understand the tendancy of business owners to refrain from issuing strong opinions on almost any subject to keep from hurting business, along with their inate desire to always remain "positive" in their verbal intercourse with nearly everyone.
But sometimes... They hold back too long, until it's almost too late and don't react in time. Sorta like Mr. Schindler of "Schindler's List." Frankly, I find FR a place to vent the strong feelings I have that I too would be reluctant to include in the "normal course of business."
But when one encounters such insipid left-wind spew as I've seen on this thread, (certainly through no fault of yours) it reminds one that barnacles attach themselves as a nuisance to even the greatest ships in an effort to slow down performance. They don't have a clue and only irritate until scraped off by the host through routine maintenance!!!

G'mornin' Sir! Headaches have kept me up once more! Your discourse is always just fine as far as Lando is concerned. And, I don't shy from engaging idiots such as the recently zotted. I simply try to keep from being thin skinned as some seem to be.
Always enjoy your thoughts and I read them with great interest!
