I don't like it when Jeffords did it, so I don't like it when Hall does it. Hall should stay as a Democrat until the end of his term, and seek the Republican nomination this upcoming year. If he wins as a Republican, he can serve as a Republican next year.
While it's not illegal, it's morally wrong to take money from a party and not serve out your term as a member of that party. Hall also has the option of resigning and then running as a Republican.

I'm not surprised... he's in danger of losing his seat and it has nothing to with principle. For every politician, survival comes first, party be damned.
