[history]
GOTEBORG, Sweden - At a waterfront factory soaked with the acrid smell of tobacco, half the blue-clad workers show an odd facial deformity: Their upper lips look swollen.
It's a telltale sign they are sampling some of the 20 tons of smokeless tobacco being produced here daily.

Critics reiterate concerns. Apart from stained teeth and bad breath, snus raises the pulse and blood pressure. Studies have linked its use to increased risk of heart disease, diabetes and premature births. Diabetes????????
The stretching of the truth by the antis is no longer stretching - they've totally snapped.

You get a lot more nicotin from using snus than smoking tobacco.

"Grimy, used snus packets litter the otherwise clean streets and subway stations of Stockholm."Shows that the attitude of tobacco-users that the world is their trash-can is universal.

Watch out for that second hand spit though. Most loggers in B.C. still use snoose. 50 years ago, when I was a lad, my mother would place empty Prince Albert cans around the house when my father's old crew-mates would come to visit.
I must say, they were scrupulously accurate!

Just about every smoker I know has diabetes problems - probably related to circulatory issues.

And just about every person I know with diabetes is a non-smoker and overweight - probably related to that.

So, where do they get the tobacco from? Do they grow tobacco in Sweden?

"snoose"
I've heard that word used in Oregon to refer to "smokeless tobacco." I always wondered about its origin, but no one could tell me.

A lot of west-coast loggers were Swedes and Norwegians - they established Copenhagen as the brand of choice north of the 49th.
A lot of fellows in the oilpatch use snoose, also.
