January 2, 2004 -- WASHINGTON - The death toll climbed to eight as investigators said the New Year's terror bomb that hit a Baghdad restaurant seems a sure sign the guerrillas are now going after easier-to-hit civilians. The injured included eight Los Angeles Times reporters and staffers.

Were the LA Times reporters surprised that their terrorist-friends attacked THEM.
They deserve candidacy for the Darwin Award variant
hereby called the Maher Award after Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmad Maher
who feigned surprise when his Palestinian terrorist-friends attacked HIM.

The restaurant, Nabil, which was hosting a holiday party, might have been targeted because it's getting harder to hit police stations and coalition forces, officials said.
Hosting a holiday party? I wouldnt be surprised if this eatery had a big sign, "Coming Attractions, Westerners Celebrating New Years Tonight". Did these LA Times people think they were in LA?

Bad choice, Saddamites. BAAAAAAAAAAAD choice. Unlike Israel and the Pallies, the good citizens of Iraq will have pretty much free rein to stomp on you without Washington threatening to pull the financial rug out from under them.

I couldn't agree more. In this case, the PEOPLE want the bombing stopped. They will feed info...not the other way around. The bombers are mistaken in thinking this is like PA/Israel. Nobody is on these guys side EXCEPT the bad guys. The people will turn them in if they can.

Bad idea to piss off a bunch of civilians when most of them have an AK-47 available, or can easily get one. And where the culture is oriented towards calling your uncles, brothers and cousins, not the cops, when it's time to deal with someone who has done you an injury.
