My thoughts exactly.

There are a few things clicking for it though.

Namely, the Norris Geyser area has been CLOSED and that give some validity to the story.

200 degree ground temps - yikes!

Nobody can get into the Norris area to verfiy - it's been closed!

Steam traveling from deeper regions could do that. Is it situated so that another geyser might be created?
