There are a few things clicking for it though.

Namely, the Norris Geyser area has been CLOSED and that give some validity to the story.

From the blast anyway. The article mentions sulphur smell, and I wonder if he's considering hydrogen sulphide, volcanic ash, assorted sulphur acids, and such in his prediction. I could possibly see that (600 miles) happening if it was a truly huge eruption (krakatoa sized at least).

The last eruption was 640,000 years ago making the next one long overdue.

Scientists make these guesstimates all the time. There's no way for sure to know when Yellowstone may erupt and there's no exact time when the last eruption occurred. It could be another 10,000 - 40,000 years ago before Yellowstone blows it lid.

By the time it blows we'd be long gone. So who cares and let's crack open some beers!!

I was in Spokane during the Mt. St. Helens eruption... volcanic ash inches thick on everything... Lot's still in that area. No one in our area died, but farmland products were hurt, car engines clogged and stopped, which meant no grocery deliveries... ON the bright side, there was lots of "volcanic ash" pottery for sale soon aferwards ;)
