Is this why I always see Al Qaeda there with pickaxes and shovels?

And when they get the hole deep enough, they all jump into a car full of explosives and drive into it!

Yes, I meant 20 January 01.

I coulda sworn I saw them there for about three more weeks.

Of course that last three weeks all they were doing was handing out pardons and lifting the silverware.

There's a site in I believe Iowa or Kansas in which hundreds of large animals such as camels, rhinoceros, etc were found buried in many feet of ash.

I've been there! It's Ashfall Fossil Beds in Northeastern Central Nebraska. Fascinating visit which I would love to go back and show my kids when they're older. I always liked their slogan "Rhinos not Dinos".

"The inverse square law has to do with gravitational attraction."

There is a great description of the various Inverse Square laws at the link in reply #30 of this thread.

From what I read there is a General Inverse Square Law, with a separate formula each for Gravitation, Electricity and Radiation.

Very interesting concept.

I drove through eastern Washington after St. Helens blew and remember seeing the ash sitting on top of fence posts, just like snow...3 months after the eruption.

At a gas station in Yakima the owner had a photo album with pictures of the Sheriff's cars rigged to run during the ashfall. He took clothes dryer vent hose and duct taped it around the air filter intake and then ran it back to the rear of the car on the outside with a homemade filter box on the end. He said that the car was only good for about a 15 minutes of use before the filter would clog.

Heck, the last time the Yellowstone supervolc blew up, it buried half the US from yellowstone to the Mississippi river in half a foot or more of ash.

Had a small discussion with some enviro twist, and they wanted to drill in yellowstone to 'valve off' the pressure.
*sniggle*
I think that was the only time I'd heard an envirotwit advocate drilling anything or anywhere.

It'll be interesting to see what their 'quake map' shows as the borders of the magma chamber.
Especially since the last time Yellowstone blew, it collapsed into itself roughly 1000 feet.
So it's 100 foot bulge at the bottom of the lake (There's two bulges actually) isn't anywhere near filling it's magam chamber.
This will be interesting.

BTW, even the Mormons with their one year 'stash' of food will not survive.

SLC is only about 200 miles from the caldera.

If it blows in the next ten months, Howard Dean will be asking if George W. Bush had any advanced notice of the event. "What did he know and when did he know it?" Also killing off all the people in the 600 mile circle could tilt the election in favor of the Democrats.

I think it was like Dec. 11, 2012 or so.

Imagine, Hitlery winning the 2012 election and then seeing the country destroyed by a natural disaster BEFORE she can take office.

"Which aspect of the government in what context and what set of contingencies with what goal(s) in mind amidst what other global goings on?"

Federal,State and Local authorities,in the context of whatever sensors they have giving a hint of the eruption-if thats what it would be called-about a week before it is expected to happen, the goal of saving thousands of lives with the current state of global goings on.

I am honestly not sure what the powers-that-be would do,given that "crowd control" is Job 1 for them typically.

This article is really over the top, trying to frighten people. I was in Yellowstone for ten days in September, both fishing and sightseeing. We have been going about every two years since the mid-eighties.

There are a number of lies here:

In July, 2003, Yellowstone Park rangers closed the entire Norris Geyser Basin ...
Big Lie. I walked through most of it three months ago. Only one small section is closed.

The animals are literally migrating out of the park.
We saw as much wildlife as we ever do. Our guide on a pack trip to fish Slough Creek did mention some decrease in elk, mainly due to the number of calves killed because of the reintroduction of wolves.

The Lake is now closed to the public. It is filled with dead fish floating everywhere. The same is true of the Yellowstone river and most of the other streams in the Park. Dead and dying fish are filling the water everywhere.
Another outright lie. The lake is not closed. We were in it in float tubes. Our cabin was only a few hundred yards from the lake. We saw no dead fish. The reason the fishing has been poor for the last five years is because of the drought, with the river's flow a fraction of normal.

Many of the picnic areas in the Park have been closed and people visiting the Park usually stay but a few hours before leaving since the stench of sulfur is so strong they literally can't stand the smell.
The author doesn't know what he is talking about. Not a single area has been closed. Most stay only a short time because they only have a day of two to visit such a huge place. We go for two weeks at a time, and it's not a new experience.

Every body of water we fished I checked with a stream thermometer, and it was all normal. The bulge was right off where we stayed and there was nothing unusual. It was just recently discovered, so they have no idea how fast it is growing.

I guess some poeple just have to worry about something, but it's no reason to just make things up.

From what I've read about this "supercaldera" already, if it blows, cancel Christmas.

Iran will be sending us aid.

This eruption horror would also invite islamists, China , South america, and EU celebrate the end of the USA as we knew it. Be aware and prepare with life-or-death survivalist know-how. Survivors can always use luck, but significant caches of food, water, tools, temporary shelter, and Faith help. The Bible teaches 7 years. We are a bit overdue.

Can we safely assume then that the Britney Spears' "In the Zone" concert tour would definitely be postponed? And, will TicketMaster honor rain checks?

Where's the part in the piece about women, children, and minorities being hit the hardest?!

:D

LMAO at many of the responses...

Maybe we should infiltrate lib camps and organize a perpetual vigil onsite protest against God's environmental policies! :D

Oh, please! What a crock of used food. This guy never heard of the inverse-square law.

Ever hear of "Toba", The last super volcano to erupt....

What happened during the last eruption of a super volcano? The last eruption of a super volcano was in Toba, Sumatra, 75,000 years ago. It had 10,000 times the explosive force of Mount St. Helens and changed life on Earth forever. Thousands of cubic kilometres of ash was thrown into the atmosphere - so much that it blocked out light from the sun all over the world. 2,500 miles away 35 centimetres of ash coated the ground. Global temperatures plummeted by 21 degrees. The rain would have been so poisoned by the gasses that it would have turned black and strongly acidic. Man was pushed to the edge of extinction, the population forced down to just a couple of thousand. Three quarters of all plants in the northern hemisphere were killed.

Mt Saint Helens is to Toba as conventional explosion is to Nuke.

I was there in Sept. and toured the Norris Geyser Basin. Part of it was closed off due to high ground temps, but hardly the entire basin.
