TUCSON - A federal agency is moving to fire an undercover agent who mistakenly gave his office phone number to suspects in an investigation into the suspected sale of missile engines to Iran, a newspaper reported Wednesday.
The phone number mistake forced U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement to close the missile engine investigation, which had taken about 3,000 hours of federal government time, according to an agency letter obtained by the Arizona Daily Star.

The newspaper said it had 800 signed contracts translated from Arabic and sought confirmation internationally during a three-month investigation.
It also reported that a Polish firm shipped up to 380 surface-to-air missile engines to Baghdad through Syria despite the fact Poland sent troops to fight alongside coalition forces.
