Very true. They also had only one brief experience with democracy (the ill-fated Weimar Republic, for those following along that don't remember back that far), and before that, a series fo Prussian dictatorships/monarchies.

Correct. I think the Federal Republic is the best Germany we ever had in history. And I´m damned proud to be a citizen of it, whatever is wrong and ill here, I believe that it´s my task to stay here and do the best I can to improve it - even to persuade our East Germans that this system is the best one. :-)
