As for Dean's children, Murray said, "it gets worse." "The Deans told their children to pick a religion, any religion, and that they would not get involved in their decision one way or the other," Murray lamented. The two children subsequently chose to become Jewish. Jewish? How terrible! </ sarc>

No kidding! What would Mr. Murray have said if they became Moslems?

Clearly "it gets worse" refers to HD stating he would not get involved in the children's religious decisions, not in their decision to become Jewish. The sentence that Murray "lamented" was about Dean's lack of involvement, not the children's choice.
Unless one is just looking to be offended.
