had been on a German freighter underway from a gulf state port to Libya when it was seized in October.

One wonders which "Gulf State" this port was in, and where the centrifuges came from. Maybe they were formerly the property of the guy who was dragged from the hole under the date tree?

My first guess is Iran.

The problem with it being Iraq is that the cargo left port in September, probably, so it's hard for me to believe they came directly from there. I can't think of a Gulf port country that was friendly enough with Iraq to have taken that equipment before the war, either, but who knows in that part of the world. Could Saddam have sent them to Iran or Saudi Arabia?

There was no indication in the article of where the centrifuges were originally made. That's an interesting question, too.
