Also off topic, how did the place come to be called Pee Dee?. The name is familiar to me only because there is a small town in Oregon called Pee Dee. It's a tiny place near Dallas and Rickreall. I worked in Rickreall for a number of years and the locals were always making jokes about the breeding (or more to the point, inbreeding) of the inhabitants of Pee Dee. Don't have any knowledge of it myself, never having actually been to the place, but the joke was there.

Looks like the name in SC refers more often to the region than the town. Read a bit more on the web but it's stuff I suppose y'all already know.

Anyway, have a good lunch.

I have no idea how it got it's name but there is a Pea river in Alabama.

Yes it is spelled pea, not pee.

The name PeeDee apparently comes from an Indian word and there are two Pee Dee rivers, the Little PeeDee and the Great PeeDee. There is no town that I know of by that name in the state but there is a PeeDee community just east of Florence on the way to Marion. The PeeDee region of the state is all the counties which drain into the PeeDee river system.
