It is not clear why Hillbrow residents have taken to seeing in the New Year by throwing objects such as fridges, microwave ovens, beds, rubbish bins and condoms out of their windows.

Yes it is. They have no respect for human life.

I lived in a highrise tower in Ontario for a few years. Every year, about this time, we would throw the Xmas tree off the balcony. It was done because carrying dried out Xmas trees down hallways and elevators left pine needles all over the place. Out the window made a lot more sense. I don't know how we avoided dropping them on the heads of people a few floors below dropping their trees at the same time, but we did.
