Killing a raccoon is now a crime in Georgia? What about rats or flies?

Is racoon any good? I would think it would be gamier and tougher than rabit.

I can't count the number of racoons that I trapped and skinned as a kid. I used to get $0.75 per pelt.
I never had any desire to eat one though.

Raccoon killing draws interest of animal welfare groupI find this all rather ironic, because if there were a dead, rotting animal-rights protester lying in a ditch somewhere, it would most SURELY attract the attention of a number of raccoons.
:-p

"The senseless killing of a raccoon is certainly a crime in Georgia. It's a violent crime,"
Senseless? at least they ate the damm thing, maybe they were hungry.
Also they could have gained a nice coon skin cap to boot.
Food and clothing, thats what we do with cattle, hogs, chickens etal
I fail to see anything wrong here

Does a critter have to have fur and be cute to fall under the busybody Humane Society's protection? THOUSANDS of ants, worms, flies, maggots, and assorted other insects are eaten, squashed, and otherwise murdered by humans on NBC's "Fear Factor" on a weekly basis. I don't see the HS holding any candlelight vigils for them.
"Humane" indeed ...

Well, my goodness -- didn't Ann Chynoweth ever watch
The Beverly Hillbillys ??
"That 'coon is mighty tasty vittles Ma !!"
Now, maybe they took it out of season - or used an illegal method.
But, you can hardly call that a "senseless killing."
The taking of a game animal that may be rabid, now THAT IS senseless !!.
To: Holly_P
Well see, if they had proper guns, they wouldn't have had to beat the critter to death.

People in some rural areas eat racoon all the time. I've tried it, and it's greasy and gamey, but not inedible. I'm not up on the game laws regarding coons, but I'd think the worst they could get these guys on would be hunting out of season or some minor violation like that.

If one were to stand outside the Phi Kappa Psi house for awhile, I imagine they would see a fair amount of erractic behavior, and not just from the raccoons either.

I'm A small town LEO in PA, we have standing orders if raccoons are out during the day (goofy for normal racoon) to blast them and dispose of body where other animals can't get at them (so rabies can't spread).

I would tell the Humane Society of the US to go pound sand. I have donated greater than $100K worth of services to the local HS but I wouldn't give the National Bloated bunch of hypocrites a plug nickel. The HS of the US is a bunch of money grabbing sensationalizing bunch of unrealistic tree huggers.

'coon is good eating...tastes like a chicken with two black eyes, is all.

I just had to read this thread since last week, someone dumped appx. 20 skinned raccoons with their feet sticking straight up in the air and frozen for about 1 mile along the rural road I live on. It will take all winter for the other animals to eat the ugly frozen carcasses. My wife says it really distracts from our home, having skinned raccoons all up and down the road. Guess I'm gonna have to be the one to clean them up.
At least if they're gonna skin 'em, don't dispose of them along the roadways!
Which brings me back to this stupid woman who wants to prosecute these kids for killing a RACCOON... Sheesh. Wonder what she would do if she found out I poison rats and mice out in the barn?

There are so many dead raccoons on Wisconsin roads every year that you could hold a raccoon barbecue large enough to feed the country for a year...at least it seems that way.
