Accordnig to Comey, Ashcroft had nothing to do with his selection.Perhaps. But what other administration officials may have influenced this selection.

I just don't want Patrick Fitzgerald distracted from what he's doing. After he cleans out the GOP, I'm hoping that he starts in on the Democrats. It'll be more difficult -- Dick Daley learned the arts of politics from possibly the greatest master of urban politics of the 20th century, and has successfully adapted to the much different environment of the present day. He has as much real power as his dad, I think, even though on paper he has less. It'll take Patrick longer to peel back the layers of the onion in Chicago than it did in Springfield.
