Thanks for the info. I have wondered about this for a few days now.

They have to have a reasonable amount of extra fuel, in case they need to be diverted to some other route in bad weather, or if they have to spend an hour circling in holding pattern due to unexpected traffic, or if they experience a problem (like landing gear failing to extend) that they need time to fix.

Fuel + alternate airport + 90 min extra fuel

FAR part 135, FAA regs., I believe
