Tom Ridge stated "The bottom line is, as a country we have to come to grips with the presence of 8 to 12 million illegals, afford them some kind of legal status some way, but also as a country decide what our immigration policy is and then enforce it." in Miami. Last I checked, he was part of the administration. Also, the President "is firmly against blanket amnesty", he did not say they were against amnesty. They could do an amnesty that could allow illegals that have been here more than say 10 years without incident to become legal and all others would be required to leave or what ever.

By the way what Ridge said is absolutely right despite the pitchfork attitude of a lot of people here. We have millions of illegals and we have to recognize them. I've yet to see how we're supposed to stop them from coming in. They don't all come over fences in California. Some fly in on visas and stay. Some come on boats. Did you know we have over 88,000 miles of coastline? Stopping them from coming in is a pipe dream. Dealing with them when they are here and getting them to come out is what is needed.
