John,
I've been trying to figure you out. You seem to claim you're a conservative, but you seem to think you're the only conservative. If we don't believe exactly like you, then we're not true conservatives. I don't get it. Aren't we allowed to be happy that things seem to be going well for conservatives in the foreign policy side of things? I agree we've got a LONG way to go on the domestic side, but is everyone supposed to be miserable because you're not the dictator mandating how true conservatism is supposed to be? Almost every post I see with your name on it is negative. Bush isn't doing enough. There's a disaster going on. Blah blah blah. At least let people have a few points to celebrate and hold your breath a bit and pray that we don't get 4 years of Dr. Deanmento. Bush may not be all that conservative on the spending side (well, not at all), but he's a WHOLE lot better that Gorebot would have been.

Eventually, Bush wins and major House and Senate wins will push us to the point that Bush's stance today will be considered the left, and the marginalized Democrats will be just that, marginalized. There will be a new conservative party and it will be a conglomeration of the prior "third" parties and people like yourself. We're working on it. But, you slamming people who are finally, after years of oppression by the liberal left, are getting to celebrate some small victories, doesn't help.

I'm Irish, and every pub needs one of me...

Lets face it, you posted to me just to strengthen your own belief system that 'things are getting better' when all of your instincts tell you the opposite or at least, are not so sure.

We are winning nothing on the foreign policy side; Saddam was clearly not a 'top' threat, but the debt that was sold on the open market to fund the adventure leaves the United States in a weaker position to defend its interests in the future. The borders are still porous, the citizens are still defenseless on airplanes, and there has not been a single resignation from the trillion dollar central intelligence apparatus over the 9/11 debacle.

And since we know as conservatives that war abroad means loss of liberty at home, we accept that metaphysically speaking, in addition to the loss of treasure and blood, the war in Iraq came at the cost of the largest welfare state increase since LBJ.

To your political points, you have discovered the limits of a two party system, but I care not for who wins coveted gubmint jobs and gubmint pensions, I only care for preserving a small piece of the American culture that believes liberty is the political end.

While its great and all for Republicans that this Democrat woman plans to vote for them (at least next year anyway) accept the consequences that the importing of these leftists will require the conservatives reconsider their alignment with the GOP.

Do I have any answers on the political arena on 'then how shall we live?' Nope, but I am willing to share ideas with other conservatives, and I only ask that liberal Republicans have the courage an intellectual honesty to not call their brand of politics conservative.
