The identity of the leaker in the Plame Blame Game was:

Time Magazine and Robert Novak.

Both knew what they were doing, but as Democratic operatives, they feign "plausible denial".

BTW, has Plame and her husband done the Playboy spread yet that he has been bragging about?

Novak said three people, two in the "Administration" and one in the CIA told him, or confirmed.

He made it sound off hand, and that's plausible IMO. The CIA fellow told him not to use the name, but Novak did anyway, saying the CIA fellow should have more strongly warned him against disclosure.

The excuse was so lame it could only (probably) be true.

As for Ashcroft, maybe he was the first "leaker" that had the long lunch with Novak?
