Tom Daschle is deeply saddened.

Hmmm ... just a week or so ago, the media was trumpetting how holiday sales were "ONLY up X% over last year."

Some good sales this week. We don't usually do any Christmas shopping, just after-Christmas shopping!

The malls in our area are almost as busy since Christmas as before. I haven't stepped foot into a store other than the grocery since two days before Christmas. I have some gift money to spend, but I can wait until the hoardes dissipate. I've had enough of it for awhile.

Yes, but Paul Krugman writes in the NYT today that the major gains are primarily at the high-end retailers, so, as always, the rich are getting richer, the poor are getting poorer, and we, the doomed, are getting all doomeder.

Tom Saschle, "I am saddened. Deeply saddened."

You really have to wonder if Daschle has really regretted making that remark in the first place.

So, why is it "good" that a lot more items made in China were are being sold here? Are we to be joyed that our balane of trade is getting worse, the dollar is going to fall more, and gold hit $417 this morning on the news?
