How could this problem would be any worse if our doctors had the power to decide what we can and can't put in our bodies--not the government?

Going to jail because you were in pain and your doctors were essentially forbidden to prescribe adequate pain relief and monitor your use of it--that makes so much sense.

Though the libertarian streak in me says that these folks should be able to medicate themselves in any way they desire, I want to know - who's OKing these prescriptions? Customer service dudes?

I've gotten a lot of spam e-mail recently directing me to these online pharmacies. I can't believe they can get away with this. An online "doctor" that will listen to your "symptoms" and send you drugs as addictive as heroin???? No thanks. Knowing that if I tried it just one time might be the point of no return, and I might end up in the gutter, is enough for me.
One guy I graduated high school with got into cocaine. He snorted away his wife, his house, and his dad's successful small business for that stuff. He's dead now, from a foolish accidental shooting. And he was a nice guy, back in high school. All it takes is once.

For more than two years, she took two 50-milligram Ultram tablets three or four times a day, which allowed her to maintain her busy schedule.
Sounds like she was well addicted long before she discovered the internet. Two years to recover? I've never had back problems, but that seems excessive.

Then her doctor moved. Unable to find a new physician to write her prescriptions, Knable turned to the Internet.Assuming that Knable isn't leaving out part of the story, or that the reporter isn't intentionally hyping up the story (as he did later on in this article with that laughable non-sequitur "the lie she was living fell apart" line), then this is the cause of the problem right here. Why did her original doctor leave her high and dry after having her on a highly-addictive medication for more than two years? Not making sure she was tapered off properly or referring to to a specialist that he knew would continue the regimen is serious malpractice.

I wondered the same thing until I did a Google search. There must be something attractive about that drug because everyone is selling it.
