Here in Phoenix and suburbs, a middle class neighborhood can hold it's own for 15 years, approximately. After 15 years, it's rental city, break-ins, car theft, full extended family from some third world cess pool, etc.

Isn't it weird how some states used to be getting better all the time? Neighborhoods used to improve and stay nice for generations. How did that happen?

That was the 50's through the mid 80's.No longer holds true.

In Warren and Tyagi’s new book, The Two-Income Trap: Why Middle-Class Mothers and Fathers are Going Broke, they write that "The brunt of the price increases has fallen on families with children. Data from the Federal Reserve show that [after inflation] the median home value for the average childless individual increased by 23 percent between 1983 and 1998 … For married couples with children, however, housing prices shot up 79 percent—more than three times faster."

Someone help me out here. Xena's Guy and I bought a three-bedroom house last November. How does what we paid differ from that paid by a married couple with one or two kids who bought a similar house? Property value is property value, or am I missing something? (Leaving aside the assessment question, of course.)

I think it was nicer even in the 30's and 40's. Even during the Depression, there wasn't crime like this. People still wanted to work and be respectable. Now they just want a hand-out.

I was born in 54, so the only first hand perspective is my life on earth. My dad, however, taught me what you are conveying to us.

I know just about everything second hand. It was nice in the early 80's while I was growing up, but I remember everything subtly starting to change some time around the late 80's or so. I think that was just when it really started to become un-ignorable, though. It had been building for decades.

In major cities like LA or New York, single family houses (primarily owned by families) have increased in value far more than small condominiums.Illegals will buy a house (pooling the savings of 2 or 3 families)and move them all in,thus driving up the price of rentals, thus driving up the price of property.

I see it every day. They work ILLEGAL jobs, because they're using FALSE Social Security numbers. They get paid paychecks. I know. I've been in the companies. I have spoken with the illegals. I KNOW it goes on. They ARE paying payroll tax--except, of course, those that are getting paid cash, which I think is the minority.

If they use false soc.sec. numbers, it is only a short time before the Government kicks them back. No Money is ever placed into their account.

The argument that illegal labor contributes more than it takes is only possibly true nationwide, and that data is old. On a statewide basis, the area with the illegals puts far more money into them than they give back. Do you want to live in that state? It's going to be every state if something is not done to stop the hand-outs.

I've read estimates that about a third of illegal labor gets paid in cash. I doubt that we will ever hear anything close to the truth from official sources.

In 1980, I rented an office on Wilshire Bl. in mid city LA. It was a great area then,; many lawyers and financial institutions. Between 1985(amnesty)and 1987, the place turned into a ghetto, with winos, trash on the streets, transients(guess who they were). Only 24 months.I moved my offices to Ventura county. Now,16 years later, the city next to where I live is majority hispanic(tens of thousands of illegals)

Ofcourse, it will. Just two or three months ago, we had a shoot out on the highway not five miles from my home. It was between rival coyotes. They were fighting over some cargo.

But as the papers were reporting on this story, they talked a little about the operations. They set up drop off houses where the illegal aliens are kept until they are dispatched to all the lower 48.

They want to go to the welfare states first, of course. That, and lax enforcement of laws. Head for the biggest hand-out, same as poor people and criminals all over.

358 - "No but your loyalty is certainly suspect when you swear allegiance to more than one country. That's why the US has never granted it's citizens dual citizenship.
and then y'all wonder why americans are perceived nativist, xenophonic and self-centered."

Better than being the bitter, racist, self-hating, selfish, cowardly, Cuban exile that you are, who is too chicken to try to take back his own country, and who just wants to re-establish his pre-castro cuba aristocracy here in the US.

We simply must make these illegal aliens legal - where else will we get the voters to implement a socialist system?

I hadn't taken the time to researched gawd's historical, cultural ties but I knew it was parochial when he posted "and then y'all wonder why americans are perceived nativist, xenophonic and self-centered."since the term "americans" applies to Canadians, US citizens, Mexicans and on and on through Chileans alike.
