"It must be fun to be you, to change the subject whenever you lose an argument"
Classic Clinton democrat training at work, accusing the other side of what you are doing. Beautiful work, Wilfredo. Your arguments are getting pummelled all over this thread.

Where would one find the figures for both the GDP and the discretionay spending for Reagans first three years? Please see post #63 for link.

Welcome to FR. Believing in the U.S. Constitution is a foreign concept to those who blindly support Bush/GOP and attack those who dare speak out against him.
Great posts, BTW...

Correction;
Interest expenditures on our borrowing as a pecentage of GDP in 2002 was 1.7%. During Reagan and Bush I and CarterClinton it was between ~ 2.5% and 3.0%.

Clinton was just careless and disregarded our National Security. I don't believe he had a secret deal with bin Laden, that's preposterous. I don't think even the Sinkmeister would sink that low.

"Al Gore respects the Constitution?" Uh, no. I don't believe I said he does?" Well if you claim his primary opposition, George W. Bush, doesn't respect the Constituion there is a certain implication in that statement.
These are extraordinarily dangerous times we live in and balancing on the fine line between being wary of terrorists who desire to kill us in mass numbers, and ensuring that everyone's American rights are not encroached on is difficult, and probably impossible. Just look back to WWII and you'll see how paranoid we can get when we're attacked, (Japanese interrment). Preservation of life becomes paramount to human nature when your enemies want you dead and they are very capable of doing it.
If you are referring to the Judicial abuses of our Constitutional rights then I don't really see how President Bush is responsible for that. He has tried to install a conservative justice on the Federal Appeals Court and he got stonewalled by the Democrats. Most abuses by the judiciary definately seems to a leftist agenda.

Wilfredo, you clearly implied that Republicans have made any 'incremental' advances in recent years. I simply pointed out that we have, and cited the shift in the media as a very significant example, both houses of Congress as an example, and that we still have our guns (despite significant attempts by the left to take them away) as an example. The media shift is perhaps the most significant of these, and the impact will be seen by this influence over the coming years, and decades. We're coming from way behind. But we are making progress, and if we keep battling, we can win, over time, and here comes your favorite word, incrementally. Sure, I would like it to happen next week too. I just can't see how it can, given all the factors at play. So we do our best with the situation we are faced with.

Thaty'll just tank the entire system. Our economy depends increasingly on a wild spending spree, both public and private (spending means borrowing, of course. Not cashing in our 'savings' from the pillowcase or cookie jar). Nonsense. Any negative impact from cutting spending could easily be offset with additional tax cuts including additional opportunities for tax free savings. Given the rapid rate of economic growth there should be potential for another large round of tax cuts next year.
To: FreeReign
However, when we hopefully have a more conservative senate in 2004 maybe at that point the president will turn to privatization. Right. Always depend on someone else to do the right thing, because it is not coming from the President. You know what leadership is? Getting Tip O'Neil to vote to reduce the marginal tax cut to 28%. If Bush was the President in the 80's, all the taxcuts will be backdated to 2080 and we had to wait for a more conservative Senate to do the right thing.

But I am half tempted to vote for a democrat for President, so that we have gridlock again, similar to the Clinton years. I guess the safety of the citizens of the United States doesn't concern you? I'm sorry, but if enough folks act like you we'll end up with President Dean and an awful lot of dead Americans.
To: arete
I will continue to fight against the enemies of the Constitution and those who would rob us of our freedoms and liberties. The current administration is attacking the Constitution by using a manufactured war on terrorism. You figure it out. And your solution is President Dean? That's downright scary.
To: tahiti
"I did not vote for George Bush for President because I was convinced he was just like his dad."Which reflects on you more than anything else.
Bush I spent $100 billion more (in constant 2003 dollars) than Bush II. Bush I left unfinished business in the sands of Iraq, Bush II has the cojones to stand up to the world and take care of business. Bush I allowed himself to be hamstrung by both the Democrats and the far right on his economic agenda, and allowed himself to be sacrificed.
It was by his violation of his "read my lips" pledge, that he was able to get the Democrats in Congress to go along with the his budgetary cutbacks, completing the Reagan economical plan, and setting in place the greatest period of economic growth this nation has ever seen. Something Clinton took credit for.
This is no Bush I, this Bush has cojones.

"Compare and contrast George W. Bushs fiscal record with that of Bill Clinton." More money was found missing and unaccounted for in nearly all government departments, literally millions and the clinton/'gore books were cooked. Spending too much is never good, but don't let this author try to paint the Bush administration with the same sorry brush that clinton painted with for eight lying years! Even the surplus was tainted - history is being rewritten.
