I can't believe that dogs cannot get sick from mad cow disease. But, if it takes a long time to incubate, maybe the dogs won't live long enough to get it.
To: LaraCroft
Maybe you can get it from wearing it, and maybe also from kissing someone wearing Mad Cow Brand lipstick.

Or cats. But if a cat had it, how would you know? True.

Why is any part of the animal shipped anywhere for consumption? Cha-ching!

I kinda like chorizo once in a while. But people have to know that a log of yurky stuff goes into it.

The tentative conclusion traced the diseased cow to the province of Alberta, where Canada had found another case of mad cow infection last May. So, Canadians last May used a cow with mad cow disease for American dog food.
Now we learn that this cow in the USA was traced to the same area in Canada as the dog food cow.

Aren't many inexpensive meat products made from the intestines?
Only the upper intestine is eaten. The lower intestine contains poop.

The video I saw of the cow hobbling around and barely able to move should have given someone pause. Or are sick animals routinely cut up for sale to humans?

He stressed, though, that the parts most likely to carry the infection--the brain, spinal cord and lower intestine--were removed before the meat from the infected cow was cut and processed for human consumption.Idea for "Far Side" cartoon: Man standing behind counter marked "Vern's Cow Brains, Spinal Cords, and Lower Intestines Delicatessan." Caption: "Unfortunately, Vern was a poor judge of consumer trends."

Okay, this may be a stupid question, but why does the meat of one cow go to 9 differnt places? Why not send all the meat from a particular animal to the same place?

Yeah, and they're both DEAD now! Are you trying to be sarcastic? John Gummer is still in parliament and can be spotted occasionally on C-SPAN's "Questions for the Prime Minister" on most Wednesdays. His daughter is fine.

Well, I was just about to order Dominos delivery when I read your post... so instead of the pizza with beef toppings, I ended up ordering the buffalo wings instead... I think I'll stick to chicken for the next 20 years or so :-)

"Or are sick animals routinely cut up for sale to humans? I don't have the article, but I believe another FReeper posted an article stating about 130,000 "downer" cows are processed for human consumption each year. There was a bill before Congress to stop this, but he meat industry defeated it. Congress has the power to stop it, but evidently the people don't. Look, I'm not anti beef or anti meat. But I do resent the profits of the meat industry taking precedence over the health of the nation.
