What was your source? I'm interesting in reading this.

Just enter "Sayyid Qutb" in any search engine (I used google.com). There's enough there to keep you busy for a long time.

Sayyid Qtab was hanged for treason ("martyred") in 1966 by Egypt's Nasser after spending most of the last ten years of his life in prison. His implacable hatred for the US and western culture apparently developed during a two year stint he spent in Greeley, Colorado, in 1948-1950 obtaining a master's degree in education. Upon returning to Egypt, he assisted Nasser and Sadat in their coup to oust King Farouk. Nasser and Sadat soon turned on him and threw him in prison, however, when he complained that they had betrayed Islam by entering into a treaty with Great Britain (among other sins).

While in prison he wrote prodigiously. His books, including "In the Shade of the Koran" and "Milestones" are revered by all Islamofascists who see in them the detailed outline for speeding the death and burial of western culture and replacing it with world-dominating Islam.

The impact of Sayyid Qtab's works on Islamic extremism cannot be overestimated. His brother Muhammed fled Egypt to become a highly-respected professor in Saudi Arabia. His star pupil was Osama bin Laden. Nearly every significant act of Islamofascist violence of the past 25 years can be traced directly to Qtab's influence, e.g., the assassination of Sadat, the massacre of western tourists at the Great Pyramid in 1993, the first failed attempt to bring down the World Trade Centers, the rise and rule of the Taliban in Afghanistan, the bombing of the USS Cole, the Khobar Towers and Nairobi embassy carnages, the current attempts to assassinate the prime minister of Afganistan, and of course 9/11.

Sayyid Qtab's influence goes far beyond extremists and extends even to more "moderate" divisions of Islam. I was shocked to find Qtab and his works praised in nearly reverential terms on an otherwise middle-of-the-road english-language website targeted at Muslim youth. That's troubling, because an English language website is quite clearly directed at an English speaking audience.

The enemy is being organized and outfitted from within as well as from without.

This doesn't mean that all or even a majority of Muslims shares Qtab's vision. But a significant and capable minority does. After reading several sources both pro and con about Sayyid Qtab, his works, and their impact and influence within the Muslim community I am absolutely convinced we are engaged in a much larger, more difficult, and longer-term struggle that most of us have dared to imagine.

. . . the current attempts to assassinate the prime minister of Afganistan, and of course 9/11.

Correction: Pakistan.

And it's "Qutb" not "Qtab" (takes some getting used to). It is pronouned KUH-tahb.

But what could we do then? Do we know where the Pak Nukes are so that we can bomb them?

I'm sure India has this intelligence and would be willling to share it with us...if they already haven't.

"Col. North replied that his family had been threatened by the most evil person alive that I know of, Osama bin Laden!"

I believe what he actually said was that his family had been threatened by "....the most evil person alive that I know of, Abu nidal."

That account with Ollie North is not true. It was not bin Laden that North was talking about.

Should he accomplish his objectives, with a finger on a nuclear trigger and control over the world's vastest supply of oil, bin Laden would greatly change the present world order.

Think about how much different this world would be if the US wasn't here to prevent this from happening.

You are right. The whiny French should stop and think about that.

>>I could easily imagine a figure closer to 10%.

ANd that doesn't account for the large number of sympathisers, not only among the poor, but also amongst many members of the middle class and rich industrial elites and the military.

Westernised, yet they admire the audacity of Osama and the jihadis in taking on America.

Judging from the actions and attitudes of the anti-American Leftists in this nation,
my fears have been realized.

Heck, those slithering lizards started re-arranging their strategies when the
second jet hit the WTC.

IIRC, reporter Bill Sammons records that James Carville was at some strategy
meeting to bash Bush at that very moment...and when it was announced to the room
that we were obviously under attack, he said jumped up and screamed to the
audience "This changes EVERYTHING!"

As in they'd have to develop a different plan for undercutting Dubya in the 2002
elections and beating him in 2004.

I pray that my fellow citizens continue to recognize the reptilian actions of
the movers/shakers of the Democratic Party and some of The Nine Dwarfs.

Thank goodness we've had the ability to get some of our personnel into Pakistan
for a few years. Maybe they've gathered enough intelligence so that if
the Islamwackos seize control, the only problem will be getting teams in to contain
the scattered radioactive wreckage of Pakistan's nuclear arsenal.
