The abnormal prions remain in the soil for years. Animals grazing the same soil, (sheep/scrapie; deer, elk/cwd) ingest the abnormal prions and become sick.

You must be a closet genius. As far I know the cause of wasting disease is not known.

Anyway I bought several nice dead cow cut's today, but then I have a bunch of live one's as well.

My guess is that the varius forms of prion induced diseases have been around for millenia. It is just like AIDS. Just did not really take hold untill intensive agricultural practices ( overactive large unchecked homosexual activity) began to be the norm.

I really don't think there is any way that more mad cows will NOT be found in the US. Given the epidemiology of this disease it's pretty much guaranteed.

Hamburger is the real culprit. I wouldn't eat it unless I ground it myself from prime or choice beef. Most of the prime and choice cuts are from animals less than two years old. This would lessen the possibility of well established infection in such a young animal.

Hamburger is made from old used up dairy cows and downer animals and bulls.
