It would have been much easier to send a message if some conservative had challenged Bush in the primaries this year. Like Ashbrook challenged Nixon in '72 and gave him a scare and like Pat Buchanan challenging Bush I in '92.
See, I don't even wanna go there...the expenditures that Dubyuh wouldda haveta eaten up, and the acrimony wouldda been too damaging. I think conservatives need to keep pressure on Dubyuh--Limbaugh really laid it on the line on Thursday, if you missed it, it's worth checking out on Limbaugh's archives--and let him know how disturbed we are by the outta control spending. Then, Dubyuh needs to wake up and realize that the loss of his base will never be made up for with converts from the Left, no matter how much he gives them!! If Dubyuh runs as a principled fiscal conservative, and derides his spending excesses in the first term as necessitated by a faltering economy and a fledgling War on Terror, he can still save this election by reinvogorating a base who would love to sweep him into a second term in landslide fashion. But Dubyuh's gotta redirect his campaign in a starboard direction, or else a whole lotta folks are gonna say, "Is it really worth it if OUR leader's gonna run/lead as DemonRAT-lite?!""
