Think about all the gazillions of tons of water pressure that Hoover Dam is standing up against. A 747 flying into it would be pretty darned insignificant. Even if the plane was rigged w/ explosives, wouldn't the dam & all that water behind it act like a lead curtain & most of the blast be deflected back into the air?...i.e.the path of least resistance?

If Las Vegas is at risk of a terrorist attack using another aircraft, my bet is that it's the strip they are after, not the dam. I'm sure they would be trying to reach several targets simultaneously using multiple planes, just like before.
I'd bet that 'New York, New York' is high on their target list. They could probably wipe out the whole mini-skyline replica including the Statue of Liberty with one well placed hit. This sounds the kind of flashy event steeped in symbolism that Bin Laden would like.

Remember, we & the Brits could not take out the Ruhr river dams in WWII. They eventually got them by making bombs that would it the dam (on the lake side) and roll down to the bottom.
They got a couple but it was not easy. NO chance with just a plane.
