I've been a fan of Alas Babylon for many years. One could do a lot worse then to have it in the bookshelf for reference in emergencies -- especially Floridians.

I have a copy of Alas, Babylon and reread it several months ago...some good survivor tactics in it...as well as some characters willing to kill others in order to survive. A very good read IMO.
