The first demand of the "peace commission" traitors was for the President of the United States of America to recognize the independence of the Confederacy, of which they were envoys. A President of the United States of America could not do that while remaining true to his oath to "preserve, protect, and defend" the Constitution of the United States.What aspect of the Constitution would it violate?
