Canine horribilis (Queen's dog murdered)

THE Queen was last night heartbroken over the death of her beloved corgi Pharos — savaged by Princess Anne’s danger dog Dottie.

The lethal attack by the English bull terrier was the last straw for Her Majesty at the end of another “annus horribilis”.

It happened on Monday afternoon as the Royal Family gathered for Christmas at Sandringham in Norfolk.

As the door was opened by a servant, the Queen’s corgis raced down the main staircase to greet Anne.

But Dottie went for Pharos — the Queen’s oldest corgi — savaging its hind legs and breaking one in three places.

Growls and yelps were heard through the corridors as the attack went on. The Queen, who is recovering from a knee operation, heard the commotion and hobbled downstairs.

But Pharos — for whom she had already made up a Christmas stocking packed with treats like doggy doughnuts and chocolate drops — was terribly injured.

He was treated by Royal vets and kept in intensive care but had to be put down yesterday.

A Royal insider said the 77-year-old Queen, who has had Pharos for more than a decade, was “absolutely devastated”.

“The incident has certainly put a damper on the Christmas holiday. It’s terrible and everyone at Sandringham is very upset.

“This year has been very tough for the Queen and this is a tragic way for it to end.”

Princess Anne, 53, was also distressed by the mauling.

The insider said: “She can’t believe what has happened and is beside herself.”

Anne was fined £500 in November last year over Dottie’s attack on kids aged seven and 12 in Windsor Great Park.

The children needed hospital treatment and the princess was prosecuted under the Dangerous Dogs Act.

She admitted Dottie had been out of control. And her fine made her the first senior Royal in modern times to have a criminal record.

Judge Penelope Hewitt spared bitch Dottie but warned she would be destroyed if she ever launched a similar attack.

In mitigation, Anne’s lawyer called Dottie a good-natured dog “wholly without malice”.

Weeks later one of the princess’s pets, thought to be Eglantyne, mauled a dog owned by the Queen’s groom Diane Jones.

Pharos — named after the great lighthouse that stood in ancient Alexandria, Egypt — was among the tenth generation of corgis descended from the Queen’s first dog Susan.

In keeping with Royal tradition, he will be buried in the grounds of the residence where he died. Susan and two other corgis, Sugar and Heather, have gravestones at Sandringham.

Pharos’s death leaves the Queen with five corgis — Emma, Linnet, Rush, Minnie and Monty.

She also owns three dorgis — crosses between corgis and dachshunds — named Brandy, Cider and Berry.

In contrast to her mother’s passion for corgis, Anne developed a love for bull terriers after she was given one as a Christmas present by a lady-in-waiting in 1989. The delighted Princess declared: “This will give the Palace corgis a run for their money.”

The breed features on the RSPCA’s list of most dangerous dogs. And even devotees admit English bull terriers struggle to socialise with other hounds.

Breeder Brian Kenway, of Hazelfield Kennels near Basingstoke, Hants, once said: “They are family dogs and are ideal with children, but not necessarily so good with other dogs.”

Dottie’s attack on kids aged seven and 12 in Windsor Great Park.
Used to be that something like that would result in the dog being put down, no argument allowed. I guess it's just another example of the way things have deteriorated.

That's a different article. I did a search of the story title (of this thread) and found nothing; therefore, this is not a duplicate posting. Is this a satisfactory explanation?

Lawyers. The same everywhere.

ROTFL

Suggest you wear long sleeves when questioning bulldog. Throwing a bag of Kenl ration through the door might make apprehension easier.

Actually I can walk up to most any dog who has not been given a attack command and pet them. Dobermans, German Shepherds, Rottwiellers, etc. I know when to not approach as well.

I have known many a dog owner who said, "How'd you do that? My dog hates everyone!"

A gift

I still advise caution, this dog may very well have trained by rogue elements of MI5. Good luck, and good hunting. :>)

Time for dear Dottie to be put down. In the U.S. she probably would have been "dealt with" after attacking the kids.

I feel for the Queen. :(
