"Happy Holidays" --- Bah! Humbug!
By Chuck Baldwin
Food For Thought From The Chuck Wagon December 23, 2003 These politically correct holiday wishers are quickly turning me into a modern-day Scrooge. I am nauseated with their incessant "Happy Holidays" greeting. The lengths to which they will go to avoid saying, "Merry Christmas" is nothing short of sickening.
For more than 300 years, Americans have celebrated Christmas. Avant-garde egalitarians can like it or not, but it was Christians who settled, created, and constructed this country. America was deliberately and distinctively founded as a haven for Christian people. As a result, our celebrations and ceremonies are historically Christian.
Therefore, the current attempt to eviscerate any public mention of Christianity in any of its gradations must be viewed as nothing short of a deliberate and blatant attack upon our culture and upon our heritage! To this phony "holiday" celebration, I say, "Bah! Humbug!"
Christmas has no competitors. Neither Hannukah nor Kwanzaa comes close to the splendor and sanctity of Christmas! To try and lump these together is tantamount to putting the neighbor's pussy cat on the same plane as the majestic lion of Africa. There is no comparison.
Yet, thousands of businesses and, of course, virtually all government agencies, have relegated Christmas to the dust bin of public obscurity. Everywhere we turn we hear the redundant mantra, "Happy Holidays." I, for one, am sick of it!
Americans have nothing to be ashamed of by celebrating Christmas! Jesus is not only the reason for the season, He is the reason for this nation's existence!
When our forbears penned the immortal Mayflower Compact, they said that this country was founded "for the glory of God and the advancement of the Christian faith." Yet, today many Americans, including many professing Christians, are ashamed to mention Christ's name in public for fear of offending someone.
Well, I am offended by the sniveling, sanctimonious secularists who are trying to expunge Christ from our nation's conscience! If they want to live in an atheistic, secularist country, let them move to France!
Therefore, whether it moves the gall of the God-haters or not, I wish you all a very blessed and MERRY CHRISTMAS!

I can't understand what people are afraid of. I am agnostic but I have no problem at all saying MERRY CHRISTMAS to my Christian friends nor would I ever be offended when it is said to me.
As an unreligious person, I look at Christmas as a time to celebrate your family and loved ones through the ritual of gift giving and the other trappings of Christmas like trees, Santa and yes, even Jesus. (After all, it is he that the Holiday is based on, so yes, there are angels, and representations of him on our tree.) Many may see that as a contridiction, a cop out but to me it's simply an acknowledgement of the historical origins of the day. Because I have no problem with Christian based morals, it's just the supernatural side that I have trouble with.
Those who see Christmas as a religious event are more than welcome to do so.
I suspect that the athiests who raise a cry at the sight of a Nativity scene are not the athiests they think they are or why would this have any effect on them... Guilt, perhaps?
I look at such things simply as people celebrating their religion as is their absolute right in this country. Since this country is (still) primarily Christian, it is only right that such celebrations are on public display. This does not prevent those of alternate religions from displaying celebration of their own nor does it interfere with non-believers celebrating or not. I don't get it. Again, what, exactly are they afraid of?
Merry Christmas from your friendly neighborhood agnostic!

Merry Christmas from your friendly neighborhood agnostic! What nice sentiments! You sound abnormally sane -- you're not offended by my beliefs, nor are you offended that I'm not offended by yours.
And a Merry Christmas to you!

AND a Very Merry Christs' Mass to you to.But don't go thinkin' I be Catholic --though I know some of that
parental christian religion to all Protestants who do
worship Jesus Christ.
