[history]
WASHINGTON -- As the nation stepped up security yesterday with extra police on the streets and fighter jets in the sky, a broad range of specialists warned that the color-coded terrorism alert system should be replaced because it frightens people and wastes public resources even in those cities not mentioned as possible targets in intelligence reports.

True - I wonder if they want pastel pink stop lights because the current red might be disturbing to some timid drivers.

This discussion, in my opinion, borders on the surreal and is nothing more than an attempt to allow people to complain. The reality, which has been stated innumerable times, is that the color codes prompt national and local officials to implement procedures and policies which have already been determined. As far as you and I are concerned, they are merely intended to inform us and request we keep our eyes and ears open.

The increased terror alert is certainly not a hot topic around here. I doubt one in a hundred people even know we have a terrorist alert system.

Anyone who thinks it is possible to hijack an aircraft in america today is a blathering idiot. Sounds like we have a
lot of blathering idiots in the wonderfully teutonic 'homeland security' department.
<sarcasm> I feel so much safer knowing they are on the job! </sarcasm>

Well .. it's easy to figure out what's going on. Hillary has lined up those dems who are safe in the next election, and she uses them to get her HATE SPEECH out there. If you just pay attention to who the speakers are .. they are the same ones all the time. Daschle has backed off because he's running for office in 2004 and he has to remain more "moderate" or Thune will win (and I believe Thune will). Bob Graham had already decided not to run for his Senate seat, when he began to spew the "impeach Bush" garbage. Charlie Rangel, Maxine Waters, Pelousi, etc., are all part of the group. It's not because they are leadership .. it's because Hillary can tell them what to do.
