Magazine Kept From Distributing Eminem CD

The Associated Press Friday, December 19, 2003; 1:10 PM

NEW YORK - A court ruling has stopped hip-hop magazine The Source from distributing a CD of a previously unreleased recording by rapper Eminem that includes phrases such as "black girls are dumb."

Manhattan federal Judge Gerald Lynch granted Eminem's lawyers an injunction preventing the magazine from enclosing the CD in its February issue, which goes on sale in mid-January. The magazine had planned extensive coverage of the recording.

The Source said it exposed the Eminem track while investigating the forces corrupting hip-hop, including racism.

Granted it's a bit tabloid-like. But I thought it was worth posting because it shows an absurd irony.

Here's a guy who rapped about "wanting the president dead", killing his mother, and raping women in an industry where songs about murder and glorifying violence are routine.

And what is their main concern--that years ago eminem said something negative about black girls

Great priorities. /sarcasm

They had to investigate this? Pick up nearly any "hip-hop" CD. Most of it is black racism against whites and lots of use of the "n" word but I guess that is "artistic freedom" in a multicultural society...

The Source despises Eminem, in part because he is a white rapper who has achieved unbelieveable success in a mostly black field. They have tried to destroy him on several occasions, this is just the latest. I think delving into Eminem too deeply is a mistake. He says whatever rhymes and I doubt he thinks too much about it. I'm a fan.

I'm not a fan, but "black girls are DUMB"?!? = RACISM???

Oh brother! What a miniscule sly speck in an industry of Elephant dung!

Poor Marshall probably just forgot that he's a white boy again....

Agreed. The Source, Benzino, and Dave Mays have no credibility. Benzino's envy at having a second-rate rap career and frustration at seeing Eminem's success has led to one petty attempt after another of character assasination. Eminem made these comments when? Something like ten years ago? How old was he at the time? In my opinion, this just makes Benzino look even more pathetic than is usually the case.

Every other rap song seems to have guys calling women "hos" and "bitches" and other words not suitable for a family newspaper. Yet this magazine is worried about some stupid raps Eminem made when he was 16? Gimme a break.
