I was thinking it was probably tough for the kid. But after reading it, the dad sounded like an abusive jerk who earned it.

Jassem's life, however, is in danger. While interrogating his father and his friend, special forces soldiers revealed that Jassem was the informer, Roehrman said. 97E (Army Interrogators) strike again! I guess they have all the guys who are any good interrogating the big fish.
Guys, come on. You're not supposed to give information to the people you're interrogating. If you reveal the source you lose the source. They must have covered that in AIT at some point.

Hmmm. This was posted last week elsewhere, after the initial arrest of Saddam, so I draw a blank on what to even search for!

Knight Ridder source for both newspapers and the one I posted from changed the title of the story.
Makes a search pointless doesn't it?

It says SF told him about the kid, not MI. Well, the text says "special forces," not "Special Forces," so they might've meant special operating forces, so they could've been Human Intelligence Collectors attached to USASOC. 'Course, the Army wants Soldier to be capitalized now, in contravention of established usage, and this article doesn't, so using capitalization to identify proper nouns probably isn't ...
Agh. I hate parsing popular media for military info.

Thanks for the link. Amazing story.

He used to like watching a video of Iraqi soldiers slitting the throat of a captured American soldier during the war. What?

Does he need a sponsor to move to this country? My oldest graduates from college this year. My youngest is two years younger than this kid. Hassan could bunk in the same room as my youngest.

This is almost unheard of in Arab culture. This boy is very brave indeed. I wonder if we are going to protect him?

"special forces soldiers revealed that Jassem was the informer, Roehrman said. " Nice going.

It says SF told him about the kid, not MI. Well, the text says "special forces," not "Special Forces," so they might've meant special operating forces, so they could've been Human Intelligence Collectors attached to USASOC. Each SF group has a platoon sized detachment of actual intelligence guys who are not Green Berets. Since no one who is not a trained interrogater can legally interrogate EPWs, there is virtually no chance that it was a Green Beret. Anyway, I was just dogging the HUMINT guys because I work in a rival discipline. Support guys often get lumped into being 'special forces' by virtue of being in the same unit, which explains the lack of clarity in the article.

They let slip his identity?! That is one dead kid... Let his identity slip?? It doesn't seem likely that it was an accident. Poor kid, did the right thing and he'll be lucky to live much longer...
