The state's three nuclear facilities were ordered to take the necessary steps to enhance security specific to level orange and make the necessary preparations to go level red in case they are called on to do so, said Nuclear Regulatory Commission spokesman Diane Screnci.
For security reasons, the NRC could not specify what plants and facilities under its jurisdiction were obligated to do.
But Screnci said the measures generally have included moving security perimeters farther away from plants, conducting more frequent patrols, limiting shipment of radioactive materials and restricting access to sensitive areas.
