There is no "whole Islamic nation." Never has been. You are correct to some extent, but one could certainly argue that pan-arabism has been on a steady increase through much of the middle east since the 1970's as a direct result of the 1973 war.

Pan-Arabism actually started among Catholic Arabs in the 50's who saw it as a means to insulate themselves against Islamic intolerance against infidel Arabs.
In the 50's Gamel Nassar (Egyptian strongman) signed on to Pan-arabism as a means of spreading Egyptian influence since the Egyptians have been striving for a secular regime since the purge of the Muslim Brotherhood in the 30's.
The good news remains that Arabs continue to hate each other. The bad news is that it is the thuggery and gangsterism that is inherent in Islam that has the capability of uniting a billion people against us.
