"Dr. Dvorak loves public medicine..."
He must be a very confused fellow. This system is completely screwed up. Who ever heard of "elective" back surgery?

Some of Canada's medical problems are not inherent to socialized medicine. The fact that Canadian surgeons leave for America is more caused by market forces, since the American salaries for these medical professionals are far higher.
Perhaps the solution is to somehow compel a number of years of service in Canada, perhaps through contracts or charging high tuition fees which are forgiven after minimum service time is fulfilled. One very innovative solution I've heard proposed is to simply tax Canadian doctors who leave Canada, say an extra 10 or even 20% of their income, should they choose to practise abroad. This way, they can practise where they want and the costs sunk into their training are recovered through steep taxes on their large incomes. It is also an excellent incentive to stay at home.

It's like this, Ms. Hansen:
In Canada, you don't pay for health care because you don't get health care.

Ah yes, the benefits of socialized medicine. This is what Hillary and Dean want for America. Wait until your disease gets bad enough that you might not be able to be cured, ah well, then when you die you will no longer be a drain on the system. Kill off the weak, that's the socialist way.
