Interesting...at 12 I picked up a copy of ONE DAY IN THE LIFE OF IVAN DENISOVICH (sp) at the library. It taught me all I needed to know about the last destructive "ism" to seek global domination (aka global caliphate). We took that one down too.

"Macaulay's mosque is fictional, but loosely based on those built around Istanbul (then Constantinople) in the late 16th century" I wonder if this "lovely" book explains that a great deal of the much older architecture in Istanbul, the structures of the Christian Byzantine Empire, have been destroyed by Islam? And does this "lovely" book explain exactly how Constantinople, (the former capital of Eastern Christendom) got to be renamed 'Istanbul'? Somehow, I doubt it.

No child is too young to become a cosmopolitan multiculturalist. Geez, when you have this as the lead, it's hard to read any further without regurgitating your breakfast. Yikes!

Felt funny? Why on earth would someone present something as historic fact to their child if they did not believe it to be so? Kristof is just annoyed that a book on a religion actually contains religious content. I think he's hoping for a Unitarian version of Islam.

Well that was later, after he became the Messenger of Allah.
Before that he was a minor desert bandit.
