I stopped contributing to UA - and have urged colleagues to do so - for five years.
I contribute directly to charities I wish to support now.

I stopped giving to the United Way 20 years ago.
Too much PC and bureaucratic waste.
I find more satisfying charities like my local Boys and Girls Club, food bank, local fire and police ............
Our local mid-sized family-owned grocery store now offers gift cards so from time to time I buy some for the food bank.

The United Way bothers me. Leaving aside all the liberal BS, I hate the way they try to get your boss to pressure you to "donate".

United Way will have to learn the hard way that if they insist on being anti-American, nobody will contribute to them voluntarily.

"In years past, we relied on our good reputation and allowed the public to respond to requests (for money), but we didn't approach it in an aggressive manner,"
But it would never occur to them that they have lost their good reputation and think about how to get it back. They just haven't got the right message out have they?

The "bad news" about the drop in contributions to United Way is United Way itself. By placing more emphasis on "politically correct" disbursements of their collected funds, and by some admittedly questionable accounting methods, the total effect is beginning to snowball against them. They have squandered enormous quantities of good will that once existed, and those former contributers are turned off for good.
Reputation is what other people think of you. Character is what you do when nobody is looking. By loss of the second, United Way has also lost a good deal of the first.

I don't suppose that their turning into a liberal organization has anything to do with it.

Maybe the United Way needs to cut salaries.
Could their CEO make due with $275,000 instead of $375.000?

May the "United Way" wither on the vine and become but a faded memory.

"Historically, the large employers have provided the bulk of the funds, through corporate gifts and employee gifts"
Employee extortion that is. Everyone knows the incredible pressure and threat of loss of employment if one refuses to give to the United Ripoffs.

You cut off the Boy Scouts, we cut the United Way off.
United Way, which part of this don't you uunderstand?

I too have stopped giving to the United Way and now give directly to The Boy Scouts. I sent the National United Way and email telling them I was going to do this, and they wrote back with a lot of excuses and BS. They forwarded my email to our local United Way who told me they still supported The Boy Scouts. I told them tough luck, but until the national organization changed its position, I would not support them.
Maybe they are now getting the message since their funds are down!

My last donation was 15 years ago. Never again.

I also stopped giving to UW years ago. Besides waste, they support abortion and give to politically correct stuff. Not to mention the pressure to give and their liberal bs.
Far better to choose an individual or a single charity on your own.
