Raw Data: Libya's WMD Agreement
Fox News ^

As President Bush said today, Libya must also fully engage in the war against terror.

Libya's announcement today is a product of the President's strategy, which gives regimes a choice. They can choose to pursue WMD at great peril, cost and international isolation. Or they can choose to renounce these weapons, take steps to rejoin the international community, and have our help in creating a better future for their citizens.

Y'know, I think that video of Saddam being checked for head lice and tooth decay had something to do with this.

I'll bet 5 bucks ol' Quadafi decided he doesn't want 15 minutes of famous humiliation.

What an idiot Saddam was. Libya was able to create all these weapons and dumb stupid old Saddam couldn't create a single one even after using the rescources of an entire oil rich country.

Maybe Khaddffii knows that Saddam fooled the world and plans on doing so himself.

Must be all PR here. Get the whole world trading with you and behind our backs, continue like Saddam did.

In return, Libya will receive:

- $200,000 cash

- 2 eskimos

- A kangaroo

Right.

Saddam played the cat and mouse game. Iran has championed the strategy of "working within the system" and has nearly gamed the system to the point of no return.

This is great news coming out of Libya but I'm very gald to hear our President say that "in time" respect and benefits will flow.

If Saddam had successfully hidden his weapons, allowed the inspectors back, and then received a clean bill of health from the idiots at the UN we would have been nearly powerless to go back and stop him as he ramped his programs back up. There would never have been a resolution 1441 and the decade long process would start all over again. The whole world and most of our own population would have seen this as just more harrassment. Saddam was a complete idiot as is Kim Jong Il.

Kaddhafi may be just one more in the line of countries who are trying to game the system. It appears they all feel there is a point at which we become powerless to stop them. They just have to dance the dance long enough to get to a nuclear test and then they feel they are home free. Once they have nukes they will proliferate among Muslim countries as is happenning now with Pakistan.

What better way to get us off their backs than to be officially removed from all the state sponsors lists ... it looks like the Hudna may be taking on global proportions at the moment.

He mey very well have some form of mental illness. But I think his instinct for self-preservation may have over-ridden his delusional state. Plus the fact that he is getting on in years, and he may be softening his views(?).

I think a good deal of it also involves Qadafi's fear of biological terrorism. He's been on the record for a couple of years now about that fear. I think he realizes that if there is a major bioterror attack, and the germ makes its way to Libya, there's nothing he can do to stop it from killing off his country.

Of course, pulling Saddam out of his rat hole isn't insignificant - that was almost certainly the extra weight to tip the scales for him.

Qadaffi Duck is doing the right thing. The US has successfully demonstrated that if you pursue weapons of mass destruction unwelcome consequences are going to be the result.

One importnant message from the Iraq war which is lost on liberals, and perhaps many conservatives here on FR, but not on Muslim leaders like Qadaffi is that we (the US) doesn't have to know for sure if you have WMD or not, just a suspicion that your country has WMD, and a lack of cooperation could result in an invastion! The moral of the story is to be proactive and compliant like Libya is doing now.

Iran's behavior will likely result in the mullah's being toppled from power with help from the US, either in the form of a coup or by direct military action.

Syria sees the writing on the wall...

It's true, he may be trying to fool us. But he didn't have to volunteer to let the inspectors in.

I think what's happening here is the result of the war in Iraq, and more such results will come in.

The Chinese have a saying, "Kill the chicken to scare the monkey."

There's a lot of dirty monkeys out there... and Saddam was one big chicken.

This is the result of the Bush Doctrine...this doctrine will ultimately be seen as even more important as the Monroe Doctrine.

bottom line: we negotiated with, and are now about to reward a terrorist responsible for the killing hundreds of Americans.

Oh yeah, I feel a great warm and fuzzy about this.

Reward?

Avoiding invasion is not a reward...

Secondly, while it would "feel" good to just wipe out the entire middle east, it's not very wise.

The fact is that with one invasion we are de-fanging (at least in part) two regimes, so far.

This is going to take a long time. You ever watch the movie "Colors"? Remember the story about the Bull and his son?

The "feel good" attitude we're seeing as a result of Khaddafi's pledge is reminiscent of the attitude among Clintonites when North Korea agreed to give up its nuclear program, or the attitude among Europeans when Saddam agreed to unfettered inspections earlier this year.

The bottom line is that Khaddafi is directly responsible for numerous terrorist attacks against the United States, including the downing of Pan Am 107. Those that see benefit to negotiating with terrorists would seemingly react with open arms if Bin Laden offered his WMD programs in exchange for an end to U.S. efforts to destroy him.

We learned a long time ago that negotiating with terrorists is fruitless, the only negotiating we should do with Khadaffi is over his surrender to face charges for being the murderous evild doer (using the President's term) that he is.

You don't negotiate with terrorists, you kill them. 9/11 should have tought us that lesson loud and clear, unfortunately many seem to have forgotten it.
