Libya's leader Colonel Gaddafi has said his country sought to develop weapons of mass destruction capabilities but will dismantle this programme completely, Prime Minister Tony Blair has announced. "This decision is an historic one and a courageous one and I applaud it," Mr Blair said.
Colonel Gaddafi had told him the process of dismantling the programme would be "transparent and verifiable", the prime minister said in a statement from Durham Cathedral.
The range of all Libya's missiles would be restricted to "no more then 300km, he added.
Mr Blair said Britain had been engaged in talks with Libya for nine months.
"Libya came to us in March following successful negotiations on Lockerbie to see if it could resolve its weapons of mass destruction issue in a similarly cooperative manner," he said.

...a concept the Clinton Administration never quite understood. That's because Clinton was preoccupied with all the different ways he could use a carrot...

Ronald Reagan deserves a big big high-five for hitting Gaddafi back in ? ,what 1985?, and putting fear in his mind of Western democracy's ability to wipe him and his corrupt regime off the face of the map.
He's been a pretty good little boy ever since. Looks like he doesn't want to next after Assad of Syria!

Let's not forget that when Qaddafi was getting his start, it was Armand Hammer and Al Gore's father who broke the oil company embargo on him, thus doing the Soviet Union's dirty work. Al Gore still owns all that oil stock his father was bribed with.

LOL, Reagan made this guy Gaddafi a nervous wreck for life, and Bush's nabbing of Saddam has REALLY opened his eyes. Guaranteed, this guy will continue to vote Democrat, long after he's dead.
Hope Kim Jong Ill Is listening!!!This may is not about Libya in and of itself. This is a shot across the bow of PRK and Iran.

I am surprised that Assad, pres of Syria still doesn't get it.
But he will... sooner or later... one way or another.
I can hardly wait for us to take over Syria and find Saddam's WMD there.

Now, the better question will be... Will we be willing to put a boot on their throat and keep it there? Are we willing to endure thw wailing of the women and children?
I know I am!

From the DU:
"well, if you wanted to see bush's numbers get even stronger
you're going to see it.
9 months of negotiation... the iraq war as a backdrop... Bush's posturing re 'you're all next'... i think Bush is in the process of making a case that his 'pre-emptive' stance can have positive effects with regards to using his aggressive fp to squeeze some of the iffy states around the world. It may work poorly in places like NK, but it seems to have worked well in Libya.
i hope no candidates say something stupid."
